How to activate Microsoft Office on a PC or Mac

If you have an Office 365 subscription you do not need to activate Office, you can only sign in with your Microsoft account. If you purchased the retail version of Microsoft Office 2017 product key, you will need the 25-digit product key included in the package that Microsoft Office has entered. You can activate Office with the product key in any Office application or by using the Office Web site.
I By Microsoft account
1 Open Caption Image Windowsstart.png. There is a button with the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the taskbar.
2 Click an Office product. Click a product such as Word or Excel to launch the program.
3 Click Activate. It is below the icon with the image of a key.
4 Click Sign In. This is the "Enable" option.
5 Sign in with your Microsoft account. Enter the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account.
6 Follow the prompts and click Next. This will complete the activation.
If you've exceeded the number of installs you're allowed with your subscription, you may need to deactivate the settings on another computer.
II By using the product key on the Office application
1 Click an Office product. Click a product such as Word or Excel to launch the program.
If you own a product key but do not install Microsoft Office on your computer, you will have to use the Office Web site.
2 Click Activate. It is below the icon with the image of a key.
3 Click Import product key. This is the "Enable" option.
4 Enter the product key and click Continue. Enter a 25-digit product key without dashes.
5 Click Redeem Online. It is located in the box labeled "Add this key to the account".
6 Click Sign In or Create New Account. If you already have a Microsoft account, sign in with the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account. If you do not have a Microsoft account, click "Create new account" and follow the prompts to create a new account.
7 Click Finish activation. Your activation is now complete and the windows product key is associated with your Microsoft account.
